Easy Equestrian Style

January 26, 2013

Love Taylor Swift’s equestrian-style outfit. I’ve been seeing this trend everywhere here in town. From Sambalatte, one of my favorite cafes, in Summerlin to Sunset park. Whether sipping a latte or walking the dog this seems to be a great go-to outfit that’s laid back but still put together. (photo credit: justjared.com)

Inspiration by Dolce & Gabbana

April 5, 2012

In my shop I have a single beaded showgirl outfit. This lovely costume was made as a sample for a friend of mine that works as a showgirl here in town. A few days ago I was going over costume ideas for a customer of mine. I remembered the spectacular, superbly crafted, bejeweled corsets created by Dolce and Gabbana for their Spring/Summer 2012 collection. Newly filled with inspiration for my next costumes, I present to you said corsets.

Here are some backstage shots. How fabulous does Jessica Stam look? I think her outfit is my favorite.

Featured on the cover of Vogue Japan and Vogue Turkey, respectively.

You can find this costume for sale in my shop.

Current Trend: Bright Pants Every Which Way

March 9, 2012

Twice a year there are a few different trade shows here in Las Vegas, NV. This year I worked at one of them- ENK. For those of you who are not familiar with ENK, it is a “…tightly merchandised event featuring premium and advanced product for men and women…”. Invitations to this event are directed to “…fine retailers who need top-shelf talent in the midst of this powerful marketplace.” In other words, we received people from Zappos, Bergdorf Goodman, Dillards, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales and so on.  The show featured brands: Agent Provocateur, Citizens of Humanity, Habitual, Hudson Jeans, Oscar de la Renta, Paige Denim, Sanctuary, etc. As I greeted people arriving to the show I noticed a definite theme here:cigarette pants, skinny jeans and capris in candy colors are HUGE.

These bright delights were worn in a variety of styles. Look number 1: bright pants with dark button ups and colorful accessories to play off the hue of the pants. Look number 2: a neutral top, neutral shoes and accessories; to make a bold statement with the only pop of color being the pants.  Look number 3: all over color; a bright top and accessories to match the brightness of the pants stating “I have arrived!”

I found it quite refreshing to see this trend in brightly-hued pants worn in a plethora of ways. This allows you so much freedom with your wardrobe to show who you are and how much fun you can have!

Here are some of my favorite styles…

Have you worn this trend in any of the styles shown above? How would you wear them?

Finding Felicia

January 22, 2012
felicia's outfit

How she came dressed for the shoot

A yellow top layered under a colorful checkered argyle sweater, jeans and a pair of black converse, cute. Her look is very college student, not surprising considering she’s attending UNLV. This is Felicia, she’s a student and coffee slinger extraordinaire (her own words). With new-found confidence and newly-toned gams, we both agreed she needed a few new looks to show off how hours of Bikram yoga have gently sculpted her body. Overtaken with excitement I decided to pull her first look from the other side of the spectrum.

Rachel Roy Dress

The Dress

The Dress

I love a good shirtdress but I’m especially in love with this one by Rachel Roy for a few reasons. The fabric, a little thicker than your traditional cotton shirtdress, amplifies the curves of her body. Equally this type of fabric-in this silhouette- can hide any bits and bumps we don’t want seen. This belt is the perfect width and it sits perfectly at her waist. The oversized pockets lend a relaxed look to the dress. Lastly, the big, bold, brass-toned buttons perfectly tie in with the hardware of her purse; it’s almost as if one piece was made for the other.

The combination of this heavy and soft fabric make it an extremely versatile piece. It can literally be worn twenty different ways, depending on the occasion. She’s going to dinner with friends in this look. Switch the heels for flats and a cross body bag and you can go run errands in style and comfort. Adding a pair of thick knit tights and boots will allow you to wear it in the fall.

The Suit

The Suit

They say the man makes the clothes, or in this case- the woman. A good suit is a great investment; it’s another outfit I believe to be very versatile. I put Felicia in a fitted black suit and  opted for a flouncy silk top in a vibrant color to help bring out the natural shades of pink in her face. The look shows off her femininity, organized personality, and professionalism. Two other options: pair the slacks with a button up and layered necklaces, bracelets and a statement ring; pair the blazer over a basic tee and jeans with a statement necklace for a relaxed chic look.

The Night Out

The Night Out

The same tailored pants from her suit look are shown here. Paired with a sleeveless bustier, a micro-thin belt- to accentuate her waist and we chose flats for this look mostly because Felicia loves to swing dance so this outfit is perfect for a night on the town with dancing included.

Out and About

I put together the last look to show Felicia she could dress comfortably, chic and uncomplicated. She runs from class to class or from school to work and is on a very tight schedule the majority of the time. These are looks she can wear while in school, running errands or simply being out on her days off.

The color palate of this satin-like top ties in with the color palate of her flats. Do note that she is wearing an oversized turquoise ring, which also ties in with the color palate. To keep warm we just added a soft pink cardigan and a turquoise belt to keep her waist defined.

In the End

By the end of her styling session Felicia was ecstatic. She can now get better use out of her wardrobe. I taught her how to wear items she hadn’t worn before; like that black satin bustier, mostly because she didn’t know what to pair it with. Now she also has a better understanding of how to dress for her body type and how to create outfits for different occasions. As you can see from the photo below, she’s superbly confident.
